Have you got the ' Pudsey 10K Factor'

Postby pumadave on 2009-12-15, 18:52

In 2010 the Pudsey 10K will be celebrating its 20th year.

We would like to make the 20th year one to remember.

In order to do this we need help with the planning/organisation of the event.

The process all kicks off late January. 10K meetings will take place once a month initially but increase to twice monthly from May onwards.

If you are interested in getting involved please either contact me or a member of the club comittee.

As a matter of interest which club hosted the first race in 1991? Or has there been some missed years?

I did a Pudsey 6 in 1984 and Pudsey 10k's in 1987, 1990 (winner R Butterfield) and 1991 (winner R Pallister).

I am happy to take on a role again as long as it doesn't involve climbing a ladder on race day, or erecting a gazebo with half the pieces missing :D

I understand prior to 1991 the Pudsey 10K was organised by other organisations.

Jon , sounds like you are an history buff. Do you fancy researching all aspects of the Pudsey 10K / Pudsey 6 ?

Would be something interesting to have documented.
Would be good if we knew all winners , courses used etc.

Are you up fro that challenge ?

It's the first time anyone has called me a history buff.

I agree it would be great to know more on the races' histories, but I only have a single spreadsheet with my own results on since the early 80's including (where it was possible) number of finishers in race, race winner and friends'/clubmates' results around my level.

The other time I did the Pudsey 10k challenge was in 2002 when J Noon of P&B won it.

I remember running one of the races one year (haven't got it recorded for some reason) where the time of the winner, Brian Eden of Leeds City was by far a world record for the distance. That was until the organizers realized they should have run 3 laps instead of just 2! I think the lap was from PLC to the Cenotaph; down Carlisle Road, Fartown, Roker Lane, Littlemoor Road, Robin Lane back to PLC. When they subsequently ran it as a 3 lap 10k many thought it was a good few hundred metres longer than 10k (maybe it took in Greenside, can't remember).
