My winge is about regular Parkrunners who NEVER marshall.
The only way Parkrun can function is with everyone doing their bit for a
minimum of 3 times per year. I enjoy the marshalling as much as running, maybe more. It seems to be the same small pool of people every week who volunteer.
Even at Bradford parkrun with 300+ runners, Linda has had to request names for the last three weeks. Resulting in the same same small pool of people putting their hand up. There are some very selfish Parkrunners out there.
Parkrun now has spun off these clique groups who have to have the most runs, most different runs, etc etc It's almost become the equivillant of running trainspotting. The problem with this is these are the very people who either don't marshall or who do the very minimum to ensure they can hit some Parkrun target somewhere later in the year.
In my view Parkrun should include the number for volunteering on the results in a column before the run totals for each runner. Hiding it away on the points table just doesn't do it justice. Without the volunteers the runs couldn't happen. At least this way those 50 / 100 / 250 runners would have to look at the number and reflect on how little they had given back to the event they "love" and invest so much time in.
