That time again, when the nights draw in. But why vacate our beloved trails and footpaths just because it’s dark? A small (perhaps growing?) contingent of Pudsey Pacers once again prefer to continue running off-road through the winter period. Meet as usual on a Tuesday evening (and occasionally Thursday also); look for the shady group with fell shoes and something strange on their heads …

You’ll need to accept that ordinary club insurances don’t apply, but, objectively, you’re more likely to get run over by a bus when plodding those pavements.

Best strategy is to bring your off-road shoes in addition to those for the road, at least then you’ll have the choice. And your bib (its policy now;) and a head torch (the brighter the better). If you’re inclined to buy a decent one, I can advise. You might find it useful in a number of ways; for this, but also for use on your bicycle (both on an off-road) or for having a go at the night time fell races organised in these parts during the winter period. A real buzz. See here: bedlamite.org.uk/. Give me a shout if you fancy a go; and talk to those other Pacers who’ve participated, if you need convincing.

If you fancied an away run, I'd be happy to take a group on an Ilkley moor night fell run.

Is the bedlamite site closed for new registrations, can't seem to find a way to register.

Thanks Darryl, perhaps we could make this a club run, or simply a bit of something different on a Tuesday evening - if so, what dates would suit (and I'll talk to t'committee)?

Bedlamite up-date:

1st race: Pendle

Start time: 19:30

Entry fee: £nowt

Distance: 4 miles

Meet outside the Barley Village Hall SD822402

Run only. No bikes.

Everybody welcome

The route is basically the Pendle Way out on the track past the Ogden Reservoirs. The first checkpoint is at grid ref SD799398. Then following the Pendle way up to the trig point which is the second checkpoint and then any way you choose back to the start/finish.

A good headtorch and proper clothing is recommended.

The route isn't flagged or marked so a recce is advised.

These events are basically timed training runs so it's up to the individual how they run them. You are given a number so we can give you an accurate time.

There are no prizes or trophies.

There is a get together after in the Pendle Inn.

Details and registration enquiries: Kevin Rogan Tel.07971 645040

Plate meat pies or cheese and onion - can be with either peas or beans - £3.00 - available after the run at the Pendle Inn

Race 2: Nab End, Silsden

1915 hrs on the 15th November 2012. Starting and finishing in the top field of Silsden Park. Approx 4 miles. Free to enter (Bedlamite is seriously low bureaucracy).

Can't make 1 but in for 2.

Date for an away Run, bit of notice to allow planing and if Tuesday suits then the 20th,27th Nov or 4th Dec

We could set off from the Cow and Calf and call in for a pint afterwards, although there's mixed reviews about it, Or park up in the centre for cheap and cheerful Weatherspoons or Bar T'hat which is supposed to be a decent real ale pub but not so cheap.
